Near Dunfanaghy, Lieutenant Carrington, Royal Navy, where he had been formerly stationed. Although belonging to, and distinguished by high connections, he spent his last few years by the " world forgot." His remains were deposited in the ancient graveyard of Doe Castle. On reaching the estate of Captain Hart, the Union flag was lowered, and minute guns fired as a tribute of respect due to a comrade in arms.

He served on the Continent, under the Duke of Wellington, at Cuidad Rodrigo, Orthes, Badajos, and was present at Waterloo, where he was wounded for the third time. His first wound was received at Bergem op Zoom, in Holland.

On Tuesday at Loughmoult, a village about three miles outside Dunkaneely, a number of parties were engaged in putting in hay belonging to a farmer named Patrick Conaghan, whose little girl of four years of age, was frolicking about the place. The workers were not paying attention to her, and she got out of sight, and was next found by a passer by lying in a ditch face down, and quite dead. It is supposed that the poor child clambered up the fence, and fell down on the other side into the mud. Every effort was made to restore animation, but in vain.

An inquest was held on Saturday last at Letterkenny by Dr. Long, Coroner, into the death of Samuel Coulter, aged eight years, son of Mr. James Coulter, clerk to the County Inspector. The child had retired, in good health, on Thursday evening, at about midnight he was seized with a violent retching which continued until six o'clock on the following evening when he died. F.T. Porter, Esq., L.R.C.S.I., who had attended the boy, stated in evidence that death had been caused by the purpuric fever know as "Black Death", and that death had been accelerated by the too free use of sweets and unripe fruit. A verdict was arrived at in accordance with the facts.

At Ramelton, on Thursday last, James Crossan, a seaman from Ramelton, died from what appeared to be an excess of alcohol. He was due to depart from Derry on the following day Friday, on a voyage of long duration. It was his custom to visit McPherson's public house prior to his departure. After consuming some whisky, he was observed to lay his head heavily on the counter of the tap room. He was subsequently taken outside for some air, where it was found that he was dying, he was then taken to his mother's house where he died in under half an hour. An inquest was held on Saturday by Dr. Long, coroner, and a verdict in accordance with the facts was returned.
