-This is a combination work of 2 different years including 1876 1881
-Figures prefixed to the names denote the battalions to which the Officers are actually attached
-The letters p.s. after the name of a militia officer denote that he has passed a School of Instruction
-The letter r after a name employed on the recruiting office
-The letter F before the date indicates that the commission was 'purchased'
-Dr. Gds = Dragoon Guards
- * Denotes temporary rank only
